Radical Acceptance

Letting Go of Extra Suffering

Sometimes we hold on to situations we can't change — a relationship that's over, a job we lost, circumstances beyond our control. The self-pity and "why me?" dialogue only prolongs our suffering.

Ask yourself: What am I resisting?

Exercise 1: Softening Into Reality

1 Notice the struggle: Bring to mind an unfair, painful, or uncontrollable situation
2 Name reality: Silently say, "This is what's happening right now"
3 Drop the fight: Instead of "It shouldn't be this way," soften into acceptance
4 Acceptance statement: "I may not like it, but this is the reality I face"
5 Breathe into it: Take a slow breath and imagine making space around the pain
6 Shift toward peace: Remind yourself that accepting doesn't mean approving
7 Freedom message: "I'm freeing myself from extra suffering"

Exercise 2: Reaffirmation Practice

1 Settle and breathe: Sit comfortably, close your eyes, take slow breaths
2 Recall struggle: Think of recent resistance or holding on
3 Whisper acceptance: "I don't have to fight this. I can let go."
4 Reaffirm benefits:
  • Acceptance helps me move forward
  • Letting go brings peace
  • When I accept, I feel lighter, calmer, centered
  • Letting go of the uncontrollable helps me find contentment
5 Rest in calm: Place a hand on your heart, notice the warmth, sit quietly
"Let go of what you can't control. You have power over your thoughts and behaviours — that's where your true power lives."
