By installing or using Cowch ("the app") you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Cowch offers self-help wellbeing tools (journalling, reflective exercises, coping techniques) and an AI companion called Mandy, informed by CBT, ACT and compassion-focused approaches. It is a self-help product.
You must be 18 or over to use the app. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must be involved in your care and oversee your use. By using the app you confirm you meet this requirement.
Replies from Mandy are generated by a large language model (Anthropic Claude). They may be inaccurate, incomplete, out of date or inappropriate for your situation. Treat them as reflective prompts, not facts or medical advice. Always verify important decisions with a qualified human professional.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the app is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or clinical accuracy. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available in your location.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither Mandy Kloppers, nor her contractors, nor her service providers will be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential or special damages arising out of or in connection with your use of (or inability to use) the app, including any reliance placed on content produced by Mandy. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything that cannot lawfully be excluded.
The app, its design, text, exercises, and the "Cowch" brand are owned by Mandy Kloppers. You are granted a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for your own wellbeing. You may not copy, modify, redistribute or commercialise the content without written permission.
Content you type into the app (journal entries, chat messages) belongs to you. You grant us a limited licence to process it only to provide the service — for example sending your message to the AI provider to generate a reply. We do not use your content to train AI models and we do not share it with advertisers.

The app relies on third-party providers (AI model, hosting, delivery). Their services are governed by their own terms. We are not responsible for third-party availability or actions.
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the app (in whole or in part) at any time. You may stop using the app at any time and clear your local data from the You tab.
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, flagged in the app. Continued use after changes means you accept the revised terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction, except where local consumer-protection law grants you rights that cannot be excluded.
